AFRIMED STAKEHOLDER MEETING, 10 MAY 2022, NAPLES (ITALY)
The 2nd Stakeholder Meeting of the AFRIMED European project entitled “Restoring macroalgal forests in the Mediterranean Sea: are we ready for scaling up? “ended with great success!
An important moment of sharing experiences and ideas! Together for one goal: to safeguard and recover our marine environment! Thanks to all the participants, you were so many!

AFRIMED THIRD ANNUAL MEETING, 18 JANUARY 2022, ONLINE MEETING
The Third Annual Meeting project was held online on the Zoom Platform, due to the COVID global restrictions. A large audience including members of the Consortium, members of the Project Advisory Board, invited speakers, and the EU Project Officer participated in the meeting.
The AFRIMED meeting started with a word of welcome from our coordinator Roberto Danovaro. It was two days of interesting exchange, many new ideas were born, and a collaborative and improvement spirit were the hallmarks of this meeting.
A SHOT OF AFRIMED PROJECT, 2020-2021
The 2020 and 2021 were a difficult years, but depside, the AFRIMED project never stopped.
Our AFRIMED shot of the 2020-21 below, with all events/workshops/congress in which the project was presented.
- 13th June 2020: Information and consultation meeting with the Karaburun – Sazan MPA administration, Albania
- 6th October 2020: Meeting on the synergy of the implemented projects in the Sazan Karaburun National Marine Park, Albania.
- 23st June 2021: World Conference on Ecological Restoration SER2021 (online). Oral communication in the session dedicated to Marine Restoration, the AFRIMED project and the goals achieved were presented.
- 7th – 10th September 2021: 12th European Conference on Ecological Restoration SERE2021 (online). Oral communication in the session dedicated to Marine Restoration, the AFRIMED project and the goals achieved were presented.
- 8 th – 10 th November 2021: WestMED Stakeholder Conference, 2021 (Blue economy initiative, supported by European Commission).
- 16th, 17th and 18th November 2021: SEALOGY – the European Blue Economy Exhibition. The AFRIMED project was presented to the participants.
- 4th – 7th January 2022: 7th Annual Meeting of the British Phycological Society (BPS2022): Galobart, D. Smale, E. Ballesteros, F. Arenas, J. Franco, R. Golo, E. Cebrian. Community composition and functional diversity across brown macroalgal forests.
Moreover, was organized The first webinar of the AFRIMED project (21st April 2021), entitled “Advances in marine forests restoration under the EU project AFRIMED and stakeholder involvement”.
AFRIMED SECOND ANNUAL MEETING, 8-9 FEBRUARY 2020, ONLINE MEETING
The Second Annual Meeting project was held online on the Zoom Platform, due to the COVID global restrictions. A large audience including members of the Consortium, members of the Project Advisory Board, invited speakers, and the EU Project Officer participated in the meeting.
After the second year of intense work in the field and in the laboratory, goals, and perspectives, and the difficulties encountered in the last year due to the particular COVID restrictions were discussed of the AFRIMED project.

UNIVERSITY OF VLORA”ISMAIL QEMALI (UVL) AT KARABURUN-SAZAN NATIONAL MARINE PARK: THE AFRIMED PROJECT HAS BEEN PRESENTED
University of Vlora (UVL) managed to organize two meetings in June and October 2020:
– Information and consultation meeting with the Karaburun – Sazan MPA administration, Albania (13th June 2020)
– Meeting on the synergy of the implemented projects in the Sazan Karaburun National Marine Park, Albania (6th October 2020).
AFRIMED FIRST ANNUAL MEETING, 17-19 FEBRUARY 2020, MARRAKESH, MAROCCO
The First Annual Meeting project held in Marrakech, Morocco on 17-19 February 2020. A large audience including members of the Consortium, members of the Project Advisory Board, invited speakers, stakeholders and the EU Project Officer participated in the meeting.
After the first year of intense work in the field and in the laboratory, goals and perspectives were discussed of the AFRIMED project. A series of interesting sessions, including workshops, progress meeting and Open Science talks were the core of this exciting meeting.
The AFRIMED meeting started with a word of welcome from our coordinator Roberto Danovaro, our hosts in Morocco and our Project Adviser.
During the meeting, the General Assembly met, as well as the Steering Committee and the Advisory Board.
A SHOT OF AFRIMED PROJECT, 2019.
The 2019 was an important year for the AFRIMED project to make yourself known. Many Workshops and Congresses in which the project was presented by our partners.
Starts with a super workshop, the first joint MERCES-AFRIMED has been organized by ECOREACH in February 2019 in Rome, in the occasion of the AFRIMED kick-off meeting.
- June 2019: XXIV AIOL (Associazione Italiana Oceanologia e Limnologia) Congress, (Italy). AFRIMED project was presented.
- September 2019: SITE (Società Italiana di Ecologia) Congress. AFRIMED project was presented.
- September 2019: SER (Society for Ecological Restoration) 2019: 8th World Conference on Ecological Restoration in September 2019 (CapeTown, South Africa), for these occasions the AFRIMED Project has been presented.
- July 2019 : 1st International Summer School on Marine ecotoxicology, (SSME1)
- June 2019: Seminar on the theme of restoration in the marine environment for “Life and death” – Sixteenth Ischia Summer School on the History of Life Sciences Ischia, Italy, June 23-30, 2019.
- May 2019: Conference “The ABBACO project” by invitation to the opening Conference of the 5th International City of Sea Workshop City-Port System and Waterfront as Commons, organized by the CNR Research Institute for Innovation and Development Services and Department of Humanistic Studies of the University Federico II of Naples.
- May 2019: Pint of Science Naples with a public intervention entitled “Il Restauro del Mare”. In these occasions, the AFRIMED project has been presented.
- September 2019: seminar given in the framework of the monthly Lab-meeting. Presentation of past activities of the PhD candidate and of the thesis project, in the framework of AFRIMED.
- November 2019: “Presentation of the thesis project Conservation et Restauration des forets marines de Mediterrane pour l’evaluation des risques d’efflorescences de microalgues toxiques (CoReFOs)” in relation with the project AFRIMED in the national congress organized by the French Society of Phycology in Sorbonne Universit. (Paris) the 14th and the 15th of November.
